A-League Tips and Predictions - Week 4
After three weeks of the new season of the A-League we have four teams undefeated and five more still searching for their first victory.
Last weekend Melbourne City claimed their first Derby win since 2021 with a 2-0 win over rivals Victory, Western United and Macarthur FC played out a 1-1 draw at AAMI Park while Western Sydney dropped their first points of the season with a 1-1 draw against Brisbane in a match the Roar should have won.
Elsewhere, Newcastle were no match for Wellington as they raced away to an impressive 3-1 win at home, Sydney and Adelaide couldn't be separated in a 2-2 draw and the Perth Glory shocked Central Coast away from home winning 2-1.
As for our tips last weekend, well that doesn't make for enjoyable reading.
Daniel Arzani failed to find the back of the net for the Bulls while both goals in the Melbourne Derby came in the first half of the match.
That won’t stop us though as we march onto Round 4 with some intriguing matchups to sink our teeth into. Let’s do it!
Western Sydney Wanderers v Newcastle Jets
Two undefeated teams face off in the Round opener on Friday night as both teams can head to the top of the table with a win.
The Wanderers have been mighty impressive in defence in the early parts of the season, only conceding one goal.
The Jets have been just as impressive on the other side of the pitch having scored five goals in their opening two games (their Round 1 clash against Central Coast was postponed due to poor weather conditions) and are coming off putting three past the Nix last weekend.
Both teams will be looking to continue their impressive start to the season as they aim for a return to finals football.
We should see an open, flowing game of football at Commbank Stadium on Friday but we can’t go past the draw which will keep both teams without a loss for Season 2022/23.
Betting Prediction: Draw @ 3.40
Macarthur FC v Sydney FC
The Bulls welcome Sydney FC to Campbelltown on Saturday Night as the hosts look to keep their unbeaten start to the season alive.
Macarthur have been solid without setting the world alight in their start to life under manager Dwight Yorke, recording a win and two draws.
Sydney have bounced back well after their opening day defeat to Melbourne Victory with a win on the road to Western United and a draw at home against Adelaide United last weekend.
New attacking duo Robert Mak and Joe Lolley have impressed for their new club with four of seven goals scored by the Sky Blues coming from those two.
Macarthur have struggled for goals early in the season but have the potential to turn it on up front. Back in front of their home fans in this one we predict them to do just that.
In saying that though we’re not sure the Bulls’ defence can handle a fierce Sky Blue attacking front.
Both Teams to Score has come in nine of Sydney’s last 10 games in all competitions, so we’re going to combine BTTS YES with an away win.
Betting Prediction: Sydney FC & BTTS Yes @ 4
