Stake ambassador Agüero has welcomed Lionel Messi and his Argentina teammates to Miami - the home of Argentinian football in the United States - with a herd of Goats.
Laying down the gauntlet to opposing nations this Copa America, Agüero’s message that ‘The GOAT’s Have Arrived’, aims to place this current Argentina crop amongst the best ever.
Aston Villa shot-stopper Emiliano Martinez played a pivotal role in winning the 2022 World Cup for Argentina, so was duly voted into the sticks. In front of him, Walter Samuel and Daniel Passarella were selected as the perfect centre-back partnership; a perfect blend of physicality and finesse.
In the full-back positions, former captains Javier Zanetti and Juan Pablo Sorin were selected to complete the back four. In midfield, Javier Mascherano and Juan Roman Riquelme were the outstanding candidates, again adding the perfect mix of technique and toughness.
On the wings, perhaps the easiest of decisions was made. Lionel Messi and Diego Maradona, World Cup winning captains for La Albiceleste were picked - with few alternatives even getting close in the voting. Up front, the deadly duo of Alfredo Di Stefano and Gabriel Batistuta were selected for their predatory instincts.
Speaking to us in this exclusive interview before the start of the Copa America at a glitzy Miami mansion and flanked by a herd of Goats, Agüero insisted three current Premier League stars could achieve such legendary status with the national team on their current trajectory.
He said: “In my opinion our next leaders will be Julian Álvarez, Alexis MacAllister, and Enzo Fernandez.
“Some say Dibu Martinez, but the goalkeeper’s roles are different, they have a different type of leadership. But I think that towards the future, those are the players.”
