English Premier League 2023/24 Tips and Predictions: Matchweek 2
Summary
What a return to Premier League football we experienced last week?
Manchester City resumed normal programming with a 3-0 win over Burnley.
Life under Ange Postecoglou started for Spurs in entertaining, if not bizarre fashion as they were held 2-2 away at Brentford.
Big dogs Chelsea and Liverpool couldn't be separated playing out a 1-1 draw while Newcastle United showed they’ll be one to watch with an impressive 5-1 win at home over Aston Villa.
Readers of this article would have enjoyed the last two results as those games gave us a perfect 100% record on our selections in the first week.
Newcastle win and Both Teams to Score was never in doubt at St James’ Park in what turned out to be the highest scoring fixture of the weekend.
While we were made to sweat on Under 2.5 goals at Stamford Bridge, it thankfully saluted at 2.22 for the punters.
This weekend is set to deliver yet again with some great encounters to look forward to.
Once again we pick out our two best bets of the week to follow and hopefully land you a nice return.
Manchester City v Newcastle United - Saturday, August 19
In boxing parlons this matchup is between the undisputed champion and the up-and-coming contender in the division.
City currently hold all the belts having knocked out all challengers along the way, while Newcastle is the new upstart on the scene looking to start their own dynasty of dominance.
They say in boxing ‘styles make fights’ and if that is the case in this one we can expect an entertaining afternoon of football.
Both these teams are full of attacking threat, something that was evident in match week 1 and should be on full show again this week.
Four of Man City's last five matches have produced over 2.5 goals while four of Newcastle's last six outings in all competitions have witnessed at least three goals.
City are far too irresistible to back against at home, especially given this will be their first game back at the Etihad since lifting the FA Cup and Champions League trophies last season.
In saying that though we think Newcastle have enough strike power to trouble the scorers at least one.
With that in mind we’ll take the 1x2 & BTTS again this week, this time going against the Toon and siding with the Cityzens.
Betting Strategy: 1x2 & Both Teams to Score Man City and Yes @ 3.15
Tottenham v Man United - Saturday, August 19
Two sides desperate to return to the top-4 will look to make an early season statement in this one.
Spurs will look to record their first win under Postecoglou in this one in what will be their first home game of the campaign.
United took the three points in their season opener but did so in somewhat underwhelming circumstances against Wolves.
The market has installed United favourites in this one but we think there is plenty of value in siding with Spurs.
A change in Spurs was fully noticeable last weekend and we’re tipping the Ange Effect to fully swing into gear this weekend helped on by a passionate home crowd.
Betting Strategy: Tottenham @ 2.85
