Tennis Tips & Predictions: United Cup
Summary
The Tennis season is finally upon us!
After a one month break from the action of all major tournaments, this January will be filled with huge tournaments and big-name players going head to head.
The Australian Open will be the main event to watch out for in mid-January, but we have a ton of action before then.
The first ever formally called, “United Cup” will be held, starting this late December.
From there, we will be heading into Australian hard-court tournaments leading up to the AO!
The United Cup combines both the men’s and women's’ game to link up for a huge tournament with a ton of bragging rights.
With 15,000,000$ at the prize table, the top ranked women and men participants from their countries are ranked.
With other players from their respective nations also filling out the roster, this tournament will be epic.
The team aspect of tennis can be swept under the rug at times, but the United Cup will bring country pride as well as team chemistry back.
Let’s get into the possible teams who can win the whole thing and your favourite matchups on Stake.com’s sportsbook!
Teams to Watch
Poland Packs Deadly Duo - Iga Swiatek and Hubert Hurkacz
The world #1 in the women’s game and #11 in the men’s will be gearing up for a battle versus fellow top twenty countries this week.
Iga Swiatek is the most dominant female athlete of 2022, winning nearly everything she entered in.
The women’s game has a Champion to fear, and she will likely be the favourite in all her matches this week.
With Poland having an almost for-sure win/points to start off the tie with, it comes on Hurkacz’s shoulders to deliver the rest.
With mixed doubles and other matches also in the mix, it will depend on how Hubert is able to find his game versus the other top guys.
If he remains consistent, this could be a tournament for Poland to win.
Spanish Tennis History - Paula Badosa and Rafael Nadal
The rich sporting history of Spain can be emphasized within two realms. Football/soccer and tennis are two sports that the nation has dominated for many years.
Paula Badosa will be taking over the women’s side of things while the eternal Rafael Nadal remains on the men’s side.
This duo is going to be overlooked because of the hard-court conditions, but make no mistake, they have a very valid shot at taking it to everyone.
If Rafa is in decent condition, Paula Badosa should be able to get a few wins under her belt.
With a solid filling on the rest of the Spanish roster, look for Spain to make some massive noise.
Australia’s Home Favourites - Alja Tomljanovic and Nick Kyrgios
Australia has a horse in the race while hosting the tournament, as well.
Nick Kyrgios and Alja Tomljanovic are two of the top players in their respective leagues right now, which makes for a good pair on these fast courts.
Nick Kyrgios hasn’t been able to represent Australia in 2022 largely due to his scheduling and recovery purposes, but he will now lock in for a huge opportunity at the United Cup.
Tomljanovic and Kyrgios will be using the crowd’s energy to try and fuel a huge run at the title.
They are more capable than most countries in these conditions, and we fancy their chances!
