How to Bet on Darts
How to Bet on Darts - Darts Betting Guide, Best Odds & Tips
Darts is a unique sport with a cult-like following, with fans packing out arenas to cheer on their favourites, creating raucous atmospheres.
But if you can’t make it to the Ally Pally in London, you can livestream darts for free at Stake.com. You can then place a host of pre-match and live-play darts bets to profit from the most significant events on the calendar.
Here, we explain how to bet on darts at our online sportsbook and run through some of the most important things to consider before placing your bets.
How to Play Darts
Darts is a simple game to play and understand, and if you’ve ever been in a pub or bar, you’ve probably seen a dart board hung up to one side.
The aim of the game is to throw darts onto the various segments on the board. Each segment has a different value and the player that makes it to zero from a starting total of 501 wins.
Darts Rules, History & Gameplay
Though darts has been played for centuries, the modern version of the game can be attributed to a Lancashire man called Brian Gamlin, who devised the numbered point system used in the game in 1896.
Today, there are 20 segments on a standard darts board, and each section is numbered between 1-20 in a non-sequential order. Each segment is known as a slice, and there are three rings within the board itself. If you land a dart in the main ring, you are awarded a single of the numbered slice.
If you land the dart in the smaller middle ring, you score a treble, while the outer ring is a double. The bullseye in the centre of the board offers 50 points for the inner ring, while the outer bullseye ring is worth 25 points.
The highest you can score with one dart is 60, thanks to a triple 20, meaning you can potentially score 180 points with the three darts available each round.
Each player throws from “the oche,” which is a line 7 ft 9 inches from the board. Most darts games start with 501, although some games are 301 points, and the objective is to be the first to zero points. Each player takes turns to throw three darts apiece, and the player that makes it to zero first wins the game – but the last shot must be a double.
