UFC Fight Night: Kattar vs Allen
Fight fans, how good was UFC 280?
A historic night for the promotion filled with upsets and epic moments to be recalled in the future.
This week we're back to the apex with a fun card full of good competitive fights.
We'll be breaking down that mean Featherweight main event and picking some smart lines for you guys this week, so let's get straight in!
Calvin Kattar vs Arnold Allen
The featherweight division has shaped up to become one of the most interesting in the promotion and without a clear no.1 contender, this main event will hold higher stakes.
Calvin Kattar is one of the best boxers in the UFC and has shown the ability to go toe to toe with some of the most elite strikers.
He is coming off 3 fight of the night showcases and fight fans can expect pure violence when makes the walk this weekend.
Kattar has looked impressive in his victories against top featherweights Shane Burgos, Jeremy Stephens, and Giga Chikadze.
The Boston native has a great chin and smooth footwork along with showing the willingness to go five hard rounds.
This weekend he will verse one of the top prospects coming out of the UK, Arnold Allen.
Allen has quietly gathered an impressive 9-fight win streak in the UFC which has rightfully earned him his first main-event spot.
He has looked unbeatable on this run which has seen him take out some serious prospects like Dan Hooker, Sodiq Yusuff, and Gilbert Melendez.
This fight will be explosive and fun given the clash of styles at hand.
Kattar will look to utilize his footwork, establish his combinations, and power shots to gain respect early.
Whereas Allen being the more well-rounded fighter will use his kicks to set up his punches and look to mix in the takedowns.
Best Bets
Our first bet this week is on our prelim headliner between 2 top middleweight prospects who might be clashing for a number next to their name.
Hawes has faced much better competition in his short UFC stint and has shown the ability to mix things very well.
Given the poor 37% takedown defence on the Dolidze side, we think Hawes has a clearer pathway to victory.
Our next bet comes on an explosive-ranked Light Heavyweight bout between Dustin Jacoby and Khalil Roundtree.
This fight should play out on the feet, and we think Khalil's only chance of winning is a Hail Mary knockout.
Given the kickboxing credentials that Jacoby holds, we think if he plays this smart, he should have an easy night.
Our final pick comes on our top 6 Featherweight main event between Calvin Kattar and Arnold Allen.
Kattar is the more experienced five round fighter, but we do not think that's necessarily an advantage given he is 2-3 in those main events.
Allen on the other hand is riding some serious momentum and has the youth advantage in this matchup.
Kattar has taken a lot of damage in his past few fights so if Allen can push the pace and mix things up well, we are confident that he could cruise a decision or even be the first man to put away Calvin Kattar.
