UFC Fight Night: Yan vs Dvalishvili

What’s up fight fans? Welcome back to another Fight night breakdown.

UFC 285 was everything we thought it would be and the fights lived up to the hype.

We cashed in 2 tickets and Alexa Grasso pulled victory from the jaws of defeat.

This week, we're back with a stacked Fight night card from the Virgin Hotel in Vegas as opposed to the Apex which will be exciting.

We cannot wait to break down and watch these fights play out, so let's get into it!

Petr Yan vs Merab Dvalishvili

The bantamweight division has shaped to become the most stacked division in the UFC and the contenders are actively competing with each other which makes it exciting.

We've got a former Bantamweight champion in Petr Yan who is taking on contender after contender to prove why he is still the best and this week he takes on "The Machine".

Call it bad luck or destiny, UFC's undefeated champion Petr Yan has now found himself in a slump of three losses in his last four fights.

Yan's losses have been very controversial as he's lost one via DQ and a couple of fights via debatable split decisions.

Although this has not dropped his stock in the true fight fan's eyes as he still looks great out there in these fights and is facing the best competition every time he steps out.

Yan is an elite striker with impressive takedown defense which has helped him take out strong competitors like Jose Aldo, Uriah Faber, Cory Sandhagen, etc.

This week he takes on an interesting stylistic matchup against the cardio "Machine" Merab Dvalishvili.

Merab entered the UFC with some bad luck as he lost his first two fights via a split decision and a controversial tap-out where he never tapped.

This did not deteriorate him from his path as he has racked up 8 wins in a row to set himself up in a good position for a potential title shot.

He has beaten tough opponents like John Dodson, Marlon Moraes, and Jose Aldo with his pressure-heavy chain wrestling style which eventually overwhelmed his opponents.

This is a great fight as Merab has trained with Sterling who has had two long camps to prepare for Petr Yan which will give him a head-start on his preparation.

Whereas, Yan will be fired up to get back to the win column after his recent controversial fights and solidify himself as one of the best again

Best Bets

Our first bet this week comes on a fun prelim Bantamweight scrap between Raphael Assuncao and Davey Grant.

We think there's some recency bias here in the odds as Assuncao was on a 4-fight slump before beating unranked Victor Henry.

Whereas Grant has been looking great even in his defeats against top contenders like Marlon Vera and Adrian Yanez.

Assuncao is slow at 40 and not durable enough so we think there's great value on Davey Grant this weekend.

Our second bet comes on a fight we covered 2 weeks ago Nikita Krylov vs Ryan Spann.

We're sticking with our pick with the underdog Ryan "Superman" Spann.

He has heavy hands and great submissions on the ground which makes him a value pick at these odds.

Our final bet this weekend is on our main event between Petr Yan and Merab Dvalishvili.

We think the odds are correct here and Petr Yan should be the rightful favourite as he is a very dangerous striker with good cardio and takedown defence.

Merab is a good wrestler but has a weak control game so even if he gets Yan down, he won't keep him there.

Whereas Merab has nothing for him on the feet and it will be one-sided when it remains on the feet so we're going with Yan to get the knockout or get the nod by the judges for a change.
